Why We Worship (01)

I have heard preachers and worship leaders announce that the purpose of our songs of praise and worship is to prepare hearts to hear the message. Is that really why we worship? What are the reasons that we worship. I believe there are a number of reasons that we worship. I also believe that there are a number of benefits that we get from our worship. I believe that we should worship for the right reasons, so I believe it is important to identify why we worship. Over the next few weeks I will be giving some of these reasons that we worship.

The first reason that we worship God is because He is worthy to be worshiped. He is worthy of all honor and glory. In Revelation 4:9-11 we find the angels, elders, multitudes, and other creatures worshiping the Lord. It was not to hear a Sunday message in heaven. The angel showed John why they were worshiping. We read that God was worthy of our worship because He created all thing. (See also Revelation 14:7.)

(Rev 4:9-11) “And when the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever, {10} the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying, {11} “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”

The first reason we should worship is because He is worthy as the Creator. The next time that you enter into praise and worship at your church, tell God, “I worship You and give you all praise and honor and glory because You are worthy. I worship You because You created all things, and it is for Your glory that I have been created.”
